Studio Time

When you schedule studio time, it is expected you will arrive on time. It should be understood that you will be billed from the beginning of your scheduled time regardless of what time you arrive.

Example: If you arrive at 10am to a 8am-4pm session. You will be billed for the entire 8 hours.

If a session concludes prior to the scheduled end time, you will not be billed for that time. We are able to continue after the scheduled end time if need be, dependent on the time of day and schedule.

If you wish to arrive early to a session to begin setup please advise me and I will be happy to accommodate you.

Before you enter the studio…

Understand that I take every project I work on very seriously and strive to make it the best it can be and this can only be achieved with an amazing performance. It can not be “fixed in the mix”. If everything is played poorly, regardless of who is mixing it, the result will always be the same: Shit.

With that in mind, understand that the the amount of time required to record your songs is entirely up you you, and if you decide to go for speed instead of quality, remember: garbage in, garbage out.

As a musician and composer I am more than happy to help you with harmonies, textures, orchestral ideas, etc. if you wish. However, my intent is to never alter or change your music.

How to prepare for the studio

Practice

The equation is simple.

Practice = Better takes = Better product 👍🏼

Practice = Less time in the studio = Less money 👍🏼

Practice = Better Product for less money 👀

Crazy stuff…

I can’t stress how important it is to not only practice your own parts before coming to the studio, but knowing what your band mates are playing as well. I can’t tell you how much time is wasted when bands come to the studio and try to figure their parts out as they go. Making sure the guitars and bass are locked in, playing the same notes with the correct rhythm as the drummer will go a long way in creating an amazing product.

Set up your instruments

Guitars

New strings are a must! I recommend a fresh set of strings per 8 hour session or until they begin sounding dull. Just as important, if not more, is your guitar’s intonation. There is no amount of editing or mixing in the world that would be able to make a guitar with bad intonation sound usable. If you don’t believe your guitar is up to par, you are more than welcome to utilize the many I have on hand. (Please let me know a head of time)

Bass

New Strings… I know they’re like 30 bucks… But please do not neglect slapping a new set on when you come in to record. The difference between a new set and old is night and day.

Drums

If you plan on using your own kit, throw on a new set of drum heads for the snare and toms. (If you are inexperienced or unsure if they’re in tune, don’t worry I’m here to help) If you have a cracked cymbal replace it. I do have a kit at the studio that you are more than welcome to use if you wish to do so. (Please let me know a head of time)

Vocals

Bring room temperature water. Bring vocal spray. Bring whatever you need to perform to the best of your abilities. Make sure the lyrics are printed or on your phone and are easily accessible.
